For those who aint seen them: Trailer 1Trailer 2I'm fairly bleedin' psyched about this. I'm not a fan of the book. It's overlong, overbloated and full of it's own self importance in my estimation. I might have missed the point. But the movie looks badass.

I can't wait to see this, its spin on the whole superhero thing is refreshing, no secret identities and heroes are treated like real people

Bit of a heavy read alrite, and they had to take the pirate story comic plot out ,but its getting its own tie in DVD release around same time as the movie release. Lot of people not familiar with the graphic novel will thinks its Rip -off of the Incredibes, there are certain similar aspects but this gonna be a lot more brutal and real compered to the Incredibles movie, plus Watchmen has a good 20 years headstart on the Incredibles if anyone decided to say that it ripped of the Pixar movie!! Hope its good, dont know how they hope to condense the whole thing to 2 1/2 hours but i have faith in Snyder and look forward to seeing it. One thing is for sure ,Alan Moore wont be sitting in seat in any cinema!!

This. Oh GOD this! I've been waiting for a Watchmen movie since I first read the book and from all the footage I've seen it looks like it's been done proper justice. I know Hot Rod (Dude, you're gonna always be Pris to me! ) thinks it's full of it's own self importance (I believe we still have a fist fight scheduled over that?) but I thought the use of themes and repeated images (the bloodstained smiley face springs immediately to mind) made it truely a work of art that stands out in the comic book genre. I. CAN'T. WAIT.

i had a moment of madness on tuesday morning. I was invited to go to the press preview here in Dublin for Watchmen, but i had to much to do in work( molten bronze metal dont melt and pour itself,a technique i will be looking into!) so passed the ticket on !!! I would have had to write a 300 word review of it for the irish times paper too,so mmaybe that was for the best as my movie description meter is limited to " Deadly", "Shite", or "Was Alrite" . Gonna try score some preview tix. I havnt read the book in a while, and havnt lent it to mates who want to read it, so i ,and them, can walk into it kinda fresh and try experience it as a movie on its own merits.

I was thinking about their removal of the Pirate comic book subplot today. Personally I'm not sad to see it go as it really adds very little to the overall story and I'd rather see that cut than other more important elements. But it left me curious as to others' opinions. So if anybody else wants to weigh in I'd appreciate it. Am I missing some reason it should still be there?

Tales of The Black Freighter is getting a separate anime release. Then later, it'll be cut into the movie ala the book in the Director's Cut.

Aye, but is there a reason it should be cut back into the movie?

Well, aside from the fact that it makes the movie a tad more faithful, smarter people then me have pointed out that it parallels the story of the comic. So it goes all meta on you.

I'd go with OptimusChris here though. If it's done well enough, the movie will convey the emotions and story better than an injoke the mimics the story arc. Effectively, the Black Freighter charted the arc of the whole story and what had become of the Watchmen, which is sorta like retelling the story within the story. It's use would seem kinda redundant within the movie.

I think the meta-story thing was in there as a literary device to get across the feeling of doom (guy attached to a plank of wood in the vast lonely ocean). In a film they'd have music to put that across more.
Buuuut I've heard the directors cut will actually have the whole thing included in the film. Don't know if it'll be in pieces like in the comic or if it'll be one extended scene bit.
I'm actually not too fussed about the movie. It looks a bit silly to me. It's hard to get the full-on serious feel they had in the graphic novel. Plus The Comedian looks too young and fresh-faced... I'll likely get into it once it's out though.
(the movie, that is. Not the Comedian's face...)
