I am SERIOUSLY starting to get excited for this film. Just saw a bunch of TV spots at movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809752801/video/12865145 and I was really impressed by Urban's McCoy. He's pitch-perfecto! The toys are starting to come out. Amazon has them going fairly cheaply, so I'm gonna get a couple. Thinking of Sulu and Uhura (yeah baybee!) in the 4" line, maybe a 12" Kirk or Bones and... dunno, might skip the 6" line depending on what the reviews are like. For them what's interested, there are reviews of the 4" first wave at www.mwctoys.com/REVIEW_041309a.htm and the 12" Kirk n' Spock at www.mwctoys.com/REVIEW_041709a.htmLess than stella reviews but still look worth a buy.

I've only read one of 'em, but it sounds pretty much what you'd expect; not-so-cerebral fun. I saw it described in the review I read as the first genuine thrill-ride in Star Trek's history.
Suits me, that does! The series NEEDS some thrill injection!

Did Carlos do some music recently (like the last two years or so) for a short CGI animation thing? I saw it on youtube a month ago with his name in the credits and thought "ooh, is that MW's Carlos?"...
By the by, I went and bought me Uhura/Sulu 4-inchers.
There shal be fun. Oh, yes. There shall be fun...

Just back from the premiere here in Dublin. First of all, im not a hardcore Trek fan,i watched the original series, saw the movies, liked the next gen and DS9, but after that i lost interest. I enjoyed the Next gen movies, but they always felt like extended episodes cos we were in familiar sets and characters. So whats different about this new movie? It feels like a movie and not an overlong episode, everything old is new again, its like The Ultimates compered with the Avengers. They have taken all the best and memorable aspects of the original crew( the friendships, the fun,the banter), thrown in a bit of Star Wars, mix in a bit of good reboot juice(Batman Begins,Casino Royale, etc..) and made a damn good entertaining film. i liked it. The new actors are great in the old yet new familiar characters,Bones and scotty are fantastic, pine even sounds like Shatner in afew scenes whle making the new Kirk his own. And the script is from the boys who gave us the TF movies, and here they have done their homework. The whole reson for the reboot is giving a credible explanation half way thru(anyone been following the prequel story by IDW will know more and why before seeing the movie but it dosnt detract) so that the old fans dont feel alienated yet the new alternate universe can be enjoyed too.
Lots of action,Some really cool wow moments involving the visuals and use of sound, tonnes of ST references, laughs, and all round very entertaining . 4 out of 5 Shatners. I deduct 1 because if they had put Shatner in it, it would have been 6 out of 5!

Mon-bloomin'-dieu, didn't know it was out yet! Thought it was months away...
What was the villain like? He better than the usual boring-ass space-pirate Klingon types?
And are there green dancing girls in it?

And are there green dancing girls in it? 2 out of 3 things in that sentence are present in the movie! Dont want to give too much a way, as i only knew about the whole timetravel /alternate reality aspect walking into it, didnt see the newest trailer either, and thats why i think i enjoyed it more. But the villain is not a Shakesphere/bond villan quoting guy, he is an average working Romulan who has been wronged and wants revenge on a certain character. He is more like KHAN( he does a similar thing to Khan too in gaining some information!) in his quest, but not as cool without the mullet and pecs!

Heh, Star Trek 2 was on over the weekend (strangely enough, the movie channels seem to be showing a lot of them lately. Isn't that a coincedence?) and I couldn't stand watching that part either! One of the kids was watching it too and ol Ricardo came on. He said to me "is that the Grandad from Spy Kids? He has really bib boobs!"

"is that the Grandad from Spy Kids? He has really bib boobs!" A departing gift from fantasy island? maybe they melted down Tatu and injected him into Ricardos chest!

"Choo fargin iceholes! You make-a de booby outta me for-a de last-a time, corksuckers!"Speaking of Trek, watch out for the action figures. I got 2 small ones from Amazon and 2 small ones from somewhere else and NONE of them had the bridge playset pieces they're s'posed to come with! Nowhere outside of the US has 'em included with the Galaxy class figures!
