Renee and Renata! Only kidding! Dirty Epics- True, I know then thru friends but that's after I heard them. Was out one night with a Friend and her new boyfriend, my phone goes off while we talking and he shouts "thats my bands song!!"- How bizzare and coincidental is that! But seriously they worth checking out live, plus there album was released last november. profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=46415200

The Funktion is a friend of mine. Might not be everyones cuppa tea, but me being a huge fan of funk rock like Prince and the Times, I love this shit. The guy does it all himself!

Still can't beat Tool as the best band making music today. I'll also second the vote for Static-X, I especially love their simpler track ala "Dirthouse" and "Destroyer". I haven't heard anything new that I've really gotten excited about for quite some time now. Maybe I'm just gettin' old.

Try these ones out optimuschris if you haven't already
Death Magnetic - Metallica The World Needs a Hero - Megadeth Beyond Good and Evil - The Cult(possibly the best album I've listened to) The Holy Bible - Manic Street Preachers(their best, period) Indestructible - Disturbed Digimortal - Fear Factory The Dethalbum - Dethklok(funny stuff this) Come Clarity - In Flames Thriller - Michael Jackson The Fragile - Nine Inch Nails
As for Static - X, I was not impressed with the last album at all, Machine I feel is their best, Start a War comes very close for me

I was the biggest Metallica fan back in the day... (They "sold out" yadda yadda yadda, I'm long over it). Haven't heard their latest, but everybody keeps telling me to give it a listen. I guess I will eventually.
Love Dethklok on the cartoon, but death metal really isn't my thing at the end of the day.

Tool are great. They really hit their stride with AEnima. Great record. As was Lateralus and 10,000 Days.
I've seen em twice. Second concert was weak. They phoned in the performance. Maybe they've lost the fire in their belly(like Pearl Jam). First gig was awesome, almost overpowering, in a good way.
As for Metallica, I loved their early stuff back when I was an "angry teen" etc, but, and maybe like you I'm getting old, I now prefer Load, Reload and S&M. I think this was them at their absolute best.
I love bands who experiment with new stuff, and they knocked those records out of the ball park for me.
Now, they're on the downward spiral, for me anyway.

Seriously, Death Magnetic goes back towards Lightning/Puppets/Justice stuff. The Day that never comes is structurally exactly the same as One if you listen carefully.
Seriously, try Dethklok's Dethalbum. Like I sad before, it's dead funny

Good to see metal is alive and well here. If anyone has an interest in Iron Maiden I picked up their Seventh Son of a Seventh Son recently and its fantastic (a concept album on psychic powers no less!) About 4 songs from it made it onto the geatest hits CD. Pretty much shows off the quality on display
