from the trailer it looks EXACTLY the same which can only be a bad thing. I didn't even persevere with the cons as beating ironhide was a total PAIN. it will sell, and i cant see myself not getting it, despite my skepticism

I really, really hope they'll improve the game. But then I remember it's a movie tie in and well, those rarely turn out great,

I can name a few tie ins that WERE good, or were based in its universe.
Die Hard Trilogy - PSX, Saturn Alien Trilogy - PSX, Saturn GoldenEye - N64 The Bourne Conspiracy - PS3, X360 Lego Indiana Jones - EVERYTHING Lego Star Wars:The Complete Saga - PS3, X360
You could loosely associate Alien vs Predator games here, especially the marine game in the 1st, which is basically the 2nd Alien film

point taken, looking back from the lofty standpoint we now have, they were awful. looking at them as and when they were released, they were decent enough. not perfect but decent enough.
let us return to the topic. i'm going to try and keep an open mind about this one. but if this blows like last time, i can see the transformers license looking for a new game publisher. activision have only made one good one out of a possible 4, and by that account, a 4th bad one out of a possible 5 will be unacceptable.
armada, and if anyone has got it out there, the g1 beat em up game that only came out in japan, are the yard sticks to which anything that comes out bearing the brand name will be measured

For a PS2 game, it looks like a PS1, from the footage I saw. Do you have it? Have you played it? The Armada game was pretty much perfect. They should've never taken the liscence away from Melbourne House.

I found the Bosses on the Armada game pretty infuriating. Plus some of the levels consisted of too much wandering for no good reason.
I will say the Starting level is pure love and nothing will take from that frist Drive through transform and shoot the crap outa them moment.

I do have the G1 game, its not THAT bad, or at least it wasn't last time I tried it. It was however set to an unholy difficulty. I had problems beating Shockwave and I never reached Predaking

You had to outclass em. Did you ever continue with the game and collect all the minicons? When you do, it takes you to Cybertron where you have to hand Unicron is ass!(just in case you didn't stick with it) Also, for a PS2 game, it was GORGEOUS.

Starscream was Easy just used that Electical shock thingy till he went down.
The Chopper had me So Buggered off as he kept lobbing me off that tower.
The Tidalwave moment was glorious but I stopped shortly after that. It's my little bros now.

Yes, Armada is THE best looking PS2 title, and I'm including Metal Gear Solid 3 in that. I mean, c'mon, what other game on PS2 has anything the size of Tidalwave?
The second battle with Starscream got me a little but you're correct about that battle at the temple with Cyclonus. I don't think you come across Demolishor in it which is a shame.
The only thing missing is character specific battles, making you go back to a level just to fight a different boss ie. Demolisher. Just don't ask me to sacrifice Tidalwave battle, I eve did that with Hot Shot!

You go up against Screamer again, and the whole Easter Island battle ending with you taking on Megatron is savage. What I love most about the game was the nods to G1 and the fact that, even in a boss battle, the Decepticons transformed into their vehicle modes to go on the attack....even Megatron. Would've been nice to be able to use Megatron and Starscream.
