Its not so much that, (I'm brilliant obivously), but the vote counts were 216, then 178, then 28? Thats a big jump. And its all to do with how much shouting around the internet we did. You had posts on MySpace, and so did I, and on Facebook, Deviantart, TFW etc, etc,... I know part of the point of this contest was to promote the forum, but if it wasnt about that, I think an independent panel of judges might be a better way to judge the quality of the art than counting votes, which tends be swayed by who can make the most noise about it. And if that means that people like gdpwatson feel put off entering cause they don't think they will get anywhere, that can't be good, can it? There was a really high standard of ideas and quality artwork across all the entries, and I don't think the spread of the votes reflected that, is all I'm saying In fairness, beating the drum the loudest(using the forums and email) was never against the rules. Everyone could have done the same thing. And you nailed it right on the head.... the winner got something out of it, and so did we. Soundwave and myself discussed this during the competition. A panel of judges would be good. Its definately worth considering for future promotions.

[begin rant] Oh dear, I'm going to come across as bitter now... and I'm not. Seriously I'm not...
...but beating the drum the loudest is hardly the best way to win a competition based on artistic or creative talent.
I mean Ger could have drawn a stick man and probably still could have rustled up a decent number of votes.
He himself admits that there was one hell of a jump in the number for votes.
[rant ends]
On the other hand it did give the forum a great deal of publicity across other boards (even TFW2005 ya boo hiss) and I for one want to see this website do extremely well. As a matter of fact there's no reason why this website can't rise to be it's own authority on all things TF for the Irish fanbase.
I definitely plan on sticking around and contributing whatever I can to the cause. You need a judge? I'll help! You need a moderator? I'll help? You need a moany bastarc to complain about his lack of votes in the Mascot Competition? I'm yer man!

Nicely done man, hope you enjoy your new screamer. I'd say the way the voting was run promoted the site in a big way, thats how I wandered in.

As mentioned there will always be pros and cons regarding a voting system.
The advertising of the contest on various other sites and thru people campaigning for votes, was to entice people to come and look at all the entrants then make a choice. Granted some people just emailed without knowing what the other entrants might have been, but we hope a lot of people at least looked at all the designs and appriciated them in there own way, and maybe felt they should vote for the one they liked, rather than the one they were urged to vote for.
All comments will be taken into consideration, as we would like everyone involved to be part of future events. We only had a limited amount of members when we begun the contest, and a lot of the entrants were members, so by the time we do the next one, we hope that membership numbers will have increased. For example what if we began a selection process of say judges comprised of members who don't enter a design? But we will confir with you all about how before we launch the next contest as to how we can conduct it,and make sure that everyone feels it's fair and impartial.

Well I hope that I haven't come across as too much of an asshole with my moaning and groaning.
Ultimately I'm glad to have been able to promote the site in whatever way I can. Heck I know at least one new member that signed up cos I spread the word.
The voting method was an ingenious move and one that really did work out for the best.
Maybe I was a little harsh. Really it's the taking and part and making friends that counts, and if I ever end up on a night out with the guys on this board at some stage in the future then I'll know I made the right choice!

I'm waiting to thank Jay for his generosity when we've heard what the runner up prizes are... *ninja* But yeah, great job Jay and Soundy! Looks like the comp did the trick. Membership's up, baybeeeee!!! Hmmm, funny you should mention that, I shall be discussing that particular topic with him over the weekend. Sooooo........ did, uh, this particular conversation take place? Were certain... names mentioned? Certain... prizes decided upon...? *whistles*
