Classics Ramjet
I love the Coneheads. I think everyone loves the Seekers in general. But I love Coneheads. Ramjet, Thrust and Dirge are the second wave of jet based Decepticons that were supposed to be the upgraded models, making the faster, stronger and generally better than the original threesome of Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp.
I've never seen any notable differences that made them better. But they looked really cool.
Classics Ramjet - Vehicle Mode
Ramjet's vehicle mode is similar to Starscream's with only a few differences that are noticeable. The wings are molded slightly differently, pointing down at the tip, and are also attached to the fuselage as opposed to having a flip up swivel like 'Screamers.
Along with this, the fins are moulded into turbines at the rear of the jet.
Colours in this mode are shared equally between rusty red and a vibrant white and have gold highlights with a charcoal colour for the nose cone, fins, exhausts and missile launchers.
Finishing it off is a clear cockpit.
Of the two, I favour Ramjet more. His alt. mode is more impressive, more stylised, has a nice colour scheme and has got a nice amount of weight to it. It's sleek, pointed and powerful looking.
Classics Ramjet - Robot Mode
This has to be the first time a Conehead seeker has gotten the respect it deserves. Especially when it's a TRUE Conehead.
First time around, with G1, the only way to represent the Conehead trinity was to mistransform the original versions of their toys, which were based off the original Seeker molds, but with different accessories/wings.
We are now finally getting a mold that does the original design justice.
Ramjets transformation is the same as Starscreams, though less flimsy as you dont have to swivel wings into place etc.
Instead, the wings being moulded to the legs becomes an advantage. They are on a hinge so can fold back, but I prefer to have folded halfway so they they retain the same outright appearance as in G1. Smaller joining wings(linking the larger wings to the upper body) rotate fully and sit angled just behind the arms.
Now, where as 'Screamers nosecone folded back behind the head, Ramjets points straight up with the head molded into the underside. This is on a swviel so can move left and right but not up and down.
Colours in robot mode are pretty much the exact same, however, the dark charcoal colour comes to the forefront, along with with a lighter grey on the waist area and gold highlights are used throughout to bring out smaller parts on the shins, waist, torso and exhaust on either side of the head.
Just like 'Screamer, the rocket launchers detatch mid-transformation and can be placed in holes on the shoulders. I, however, prefer to throw in as much difference as possible when it comes to the seekers so I have these in his hands like 2 really big hand held blasters/missle launchers(not pictured).
For me, the robot mode here improves upon Starscreams in every way. Ramjet looks more impressive, more classy and just far more cool when compared to the Decepticon's lead seeker. Having the large wings on the legs means that the cannons on his arms arent restricted from movement, like they are on Starscream. A definate plus.
His face is excellent. Molded with sharp angles and looking very focused, he almost has a look of Cyclonus to him.
He's probably my favourite of the Classics deluxe Decepticon figures.
Weapons:
Like Starscream, two rocket launchers but with a different style of missile.
Overall
Nicer, more luxurious version of the 'Screamer mold, but so different it warrants buying him also. You might even prefer him like I do. It's hard to fault him. The only detractor here is the same one on Starscream. The little flaps that his arms are attached to at the side of the chest. They're not the sturdiest. Other than this, he's pretty much perfect.
Score: 4/5
