One of the most anticipated figures in the new universe line came to us in wave four (or as i like to call it "the wave that decended from the heavens to blind us with its awesomeness....and sneak cheetor in the back door)" Cyclonus. The first mass release this character has recieved since G1. So does he live up to the hype ? Frankly YES! and then some.
Cyclonus comes packed in his jet form which is an update of his G1 starfighter/futuristic jet mode.
As you can see Hasbro decided to use his G1 toy colours rather then his animation ones.
He's slightly more heavily armed in this incarnation with weapons ports along the wings and machine guns painted in silver on the nose cone. Theres also a port for mounting nightstick on the top. Due to the transformation he has an opening cockpit of sorts with plenty of run for an old diaclone driver if u have one handy .
The detailing on this form is nothing short of spectacular with almost every inch of it covered in panel lines ,rivets and vents. A very sleek and menacing craft indeed
Anyone see what I dont see ? Thats right they corrected the most glaring flaw of the G1 toy and made it so his face no longer stares out at you from under his nosecone.
Transformation to robot form is straightforward but satisfying with some very unexpected steps such as :
The legs : instead of pulling them out on telescoping joints the split apart and then scissor back into place to form the shins.
The nose cones folds away into the chest to give him his kibbleless profile from the cartoon.
The robot mode is fantastic with almost no jet kibble whatso ever. It has decent proportions and looks every bit the powerful Decepticon warrior. In this form Cyclonus has articulation in his knees, hips (on ball joints) elbows and shouldersboth rotating and out to the side. His head can rotate 360 degrees but no up or down movement . Sadly no bicep swivel so it restricts the poses he can pull somewhat.
Size wise Cyclonus is taller then most of the other Universe Dx,s. He looks really good posed next to his lord and master Galvatron
Perhaps the most surprising thing when this toy was first announced was the fact that he was going to , once again be a targetmaster.
Nightstick is a great little figure in his own right
An vast improvement over his G1 self in that he has functioning hips ,shoulders and elbows. And surprisingly (for hasbro) his face is painted in colours not found anywhere else on the Cyclonus figure.
As with his G1 self he transforms into Cyclonus's blaster
he fits nicely into the figures right hand (oddly Cyc has only one fist hole) and looks very impressive once in there
Addiontionaly u can fold away either fist and has Nightick connect directly to Cyclonus's wrist ala the Japanese Headmasters series
TRANSFORM HAND ON!
Anyway if u collect the Universe line or transformers in genral you NEED this figure. I picked mine up from Modelmania in Dublin and he is worth every last cent. I give this figure 4.5 outta 5. He loses half a point for the lack of a becep swivel and his face shoulda been painted silver
