What's your favourite beat 'em up games? For me I really like Rival Schools, Street Fighter, Tekken and the one with the pink-clad roller-skating ninja girl... can't remember it's name. It was from a long while back, around the mid-to-late 90's? But THE coolest ever for me is Bloody Roar. That thing was AWESOME. Street Fighter meets The Howling!Never liked Mortal Kombat. The whole photo-realistic thing seemed to slow the animation's fluidity down. Too damn slow!

Tekken 3 was a pinnacle for me. Didn't get much better. Which is why they havent changed anything since except the graphics.
Soul Edge(PS1) is probably still one of the finest. It's gotten weaker and easier as it's moved on in years to the Soul Calbre titles.
Street Fighter 2 Championship edition. Rock. Solid. Hard.
Eternal Champions on the Megadrive. Pretty much unbeatable. Very complex. Very tough.
One on one fighters aside, my favourite scrolling beat em ups are: Streets of Rage 2, Golden Axe 2, Batman Returns(SNES) and thats about it.

Streets of Rage 2 was cool but for me it's most memorable for the box cover art. The girl in that helped usher in me puberty. Phwooooar.
If we're adding in side-scrolling beat 'em ups too, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Hyperstone Heist was one of the greatest games I think I ever played. Exactly like the arcade version, except less stretched up graphically.

Funny you mention Streets of Rage 2, its on XBox Live Arcade for anyone that's interested. Yeah, the amount of wasted time on this game and it's still intense.
Kinda dropped off fighting games in the past few years but I've pretty much been into the best at some point or another, Tekken 3 was great and was my watershed in the series.
Still doesn't touch Virtua Fighter though, the update of the $th game was excellent and I even had the original at one point.
Soul Calibur is absolute class and has only gotten better with time.
Street Fighter 2 is still the daddy.
Mortal Kombat is still good for a few cheap laughs
Rival Schools, hmm. School girls with big melons = EVERY SCHOOLBOYS FANTASY! It was an ok beater too.
Never got into the Dead or Alive series
OOH, just remembered Marvel vs. Capcom 2, was there any better 2D fighter out there

I wish they'd do something with Rival Schools. Bring it back or make a movie or something. It was a great idea for a beat 'em up with a really cool style to it.
One game I never got to play was Darkstalkers. I loved the look of the characters but it looked a bit slow from what little I saw of it.

People online used the pc version of Street Fighter to make their own custom costumes. All of these are freaking great!

The box for Masters of Tera Kasi is more playable than SF the movie! Yeah but if you look at was was around at the time of masters of tera kasi it wasn't so bad. I hated the way if you won a fight near the edge of the ring and your character celebrated and walked off the edge you still lost.

Still trying to get the image of badly digitised Raul Julia floating about the screen out of my mind. It has replaced the whale in my nightmares
