Universe /Henkei Cheetor.
This guy seems to be getting the pass over treatment as the runt of the litter that gave us the likes of Hound and Cyclonus.
I dont have any of the previous Cheetor figures any more to compere him to the new updated version,so i can take this guy at face value.
This Cheetor is based on his first series mode in Beast Wars, he transforms from Maximal warrior into A cheetah(surprise!).
The Cheetah beast mode hides alot of the robot parts well apart from the abdomen which uses 2 panels to cover it up, and the inner armpits as you can see the robot mode fists.
In this mode you can press a lever on the back and the beast mouth opens, a this happens the green eyes roll over to a red colour. The beast mode is articulated at the shoulders, elbows, and paw on the front legs and at hips, thigh, ankle and paw on hind legs. the tail also goes up and down!
In robot mode, he resembles the cartoon design rather well. only real drawback in robotmode is that the barrel like chest of the cheetah is the back of the robot mode and makes him look a bit like a hunchback. Also the arms seem to be a teensy bit short and have to be put at an angle on the shoulders to have them kinda lay by his side. A cool feature about Cheetor is that he has 2 ninja stars/shurikens similar to Animated Prowl. These can be stored in his thighs in either mode. His tail detaches to become a club. He is quite poseablein robot mode. Dont mind the Back packaging phtos,he is mistransfomed.
As usual, the main differences between Universe and the Henkei realses are the paint chemes and addition of chrome!
I prefer the Hnkei version of Cheetor as it resembles the cartoon show alot more, with the more metallic blue chromed face and hints of brown, blue and grey panels in Maximal mode to give it more techno feel. The yellow paint used for the Henkei is aslight shade duller too.
Not atotal waste of a figure,I would have preferd his rifle to be included instead of 1 of the shurikens and maybe a bit of extra attention to the arms to make them more movable and less clunky, but overall its not the disaster I was expecting. But you would be right in choosing Cyclonus or Hound first.
