At BotCon 2000, Beast Machines was the series doing the rounds. While Beast Machines, as a whole, wasn't very popular among the Transformers fraternity, I did think it had it's good points of character, even if some of those turns were baffling. Many characters returned from the Beast Wars for this one, as a new Wreckers unit was formed under the guidance of Primal Prime, a repaint of Optimal Optimus, and was created from the rig that was used to control Optimus in season 3. Apelinq was his right hand and also fought alongside the now recently divided Tigatron and Airrazor. Also repainted was Cyclonus(Ultra Jetstorm), Packrat(original Rattrap), Rotorbolt(Obsidian), Glyph(Bumblebee) and Tapout(Cliffjumper). Here, we shall look at Apelinq.
Apelinq is based off the Transmetal Optimus Primal. His beast mode is that of a cyber gorilla. In beast mode, his arms are amazing and are very flexible for some limited poses due to the very short legs. He can be put into his cyber surfer mode and can fly. All you do is put the robot mode feet together. Plenty of chroming, something we haven't seen much since from BotCon figures, on the head and chest and feet with some chroming on the shoulders.
His robot mode is stunning and some other colours open up, metallic green for the center of the chest. The beast mode foot chroming now goes to the knees while the beast chest is hidden at the back and is under the backpack. His face and head has green on the top and green antennae, black face with white fangs to contrast and yellow optics.
There are 3 types of weapon configuration for Apelinq, machine guns, electric clubs and a pistol that is used as his cyber surf board booster.
Joints are as follows, knees and elbows 90 degree hinges, full 360 rotation of the shoulders, the arms at the bicep can be rotated 360 degrees.
It's a good range of poses but sometimes the balance is let down by the backpack on certain poses or the feet may sometimes prove to be inadequate. The paint job is spotless, contrasting and always interesting and pleasing. It's a very cool figure and I recommend to find either this or Transmetal Optimus Primal. Cracking figure, even with it's minor flaws. 4.5/5
