--------This is iTransfan's review of Springer copied from Clasicverse news---------
Warbot Defender will no longer be referred to as such and shall be renamed Springer. This is from Fansproject and is their first full figure as opposed to add ons and armor suits(don't worry, I like those too).
The robot mode is a perfect homage in color to Springer. I really cannot see how much better the colors could have been, muted and vivid when required. You don't really need me to describe the colors, look at the photos. It really is a good job all round.
Kinda reminds me of Robocop. "You're move, creep". Nice little hip holsters
Pity this wasn't as well thought as the holsters but it is still tidy to keep the blade there
As you can see, despite the waist being a touch limited dues to some panels folded in at the back, Springer can be posed nicely. The joints on my issue are tight, especially in the upper arms, which rotate 180, ball joint elbows and a 90 hinge at the wrist which cam also rotate 180. Hips are nice and tight 180 degree rotators with 90 degree knees and a joint above the ankle which can help stabilize in certain poses. Head is also on a ball joint and the shoulders rotate 360 vertically and 90 horizontally.
The other Springer is now redubbed to Hardhead
Beside Ultra Magnus in the infamous Fansproject City Commander armor
Compared to a voyager class figure, Springer is not quite a voyager but bigger than a deluxe. To be honest, it is the perfect size
Vehicle transformations are very involving and take a little bit of getting used to. Fansproject do have something in common with Has/Tak, badly drawn out instructions that are unclear at times. Nice APC mode but does not touch the majesty of his chopper mode
"]
Compared to Classics Hot Rod....
...and Optimus Prime
The helicopter mode, like the ground effect vehicle, is involving and could have done with clearer instructions. This mode has a very nice weight to it, and has a nice balance and look. it retains many of the color attributes of the ground effect vehicle mode with slightly more green towards the front and less so at the back.
Have to say, the die cast front is very cool, asare the leg panels that form the tail in chopper mode. Who said it was a lost art?
Overall Springer is a very cool figure, well balanced, well designed and neither too big or too small. Coupled with the die cast chest and plates on the legs and the new touches such as the hip holsters, this is a perfect homage to the famous Autobot triple changer. My only real gripe with this figure was that the sword is flimsy as a weapon and even flimsier as the rotor. Transformations are involving and fun and the bot is just too damn perfect. I'll tip my hat to Fansproject for giving us what Hasbro continually refuse to give us and to ModelManiacs for the supply of this stunning figure.
Score 9.5/10
