Review - ROTF Bludgeon
Let's go back to last August, San Diego ComiCon, Hasbro announce a new wave of Revenge of the Fallen figures that appear outside of the movie. Bludgeon was among those announced.
Bludgeon is remeniscent of his G1 pretender appearance, that of a samurai with a giant sword. The look is faithful in this regard.
As you can see, his colours are dominated with orange and an olive drab green in robot mode, with a dark red for his helmet and forearms and a dark purple Decepticon logo on his hip. I am gald to be returning to something closer to the traditional colors as I really do not like it when Hasbro use gold or silver for the logos. I know it is a small thing but I do find it very irritating. The sword is entirely grey as you will see in later shots.
As we turn the figure, the olive drab comes more to the fore as the tank parts become more apparent on his back. The turret serves two purposes as it is the scabbard for the sword and has a hidden dagger inside the turret.
Personally, this ranks with Long Haul for this, the figure has excellent balance. It doesn't really come out here but Bludgeon was leaning slightly forward and most would topple when doing this.
Posing is good and I found a nice range. What helps for lower posing is the fact that he has semi working ankles. They're not as good as Long Haul's but they are better than most voyagers out there, including the animated ones. The knees are nice and stiff. Arms both swivel and are solid at the elbows. For extra at the shoulders, they can be easily seperated from the body for extra height in posing the shoulders in you want. Just like before, even leaning back did not upset the center of gravity for this figure.
This kneeling pose is very impressive to me, very few can achieve this pose with ease.
On to the tank mode.
I think the tank mode is possibly better than leader Brawl's mode for the first movie line. Yes it is more of a rectangle and yes, it looks less dangerous than Brawl, but it is not without charm. He comes with similar rocket pods on each side of the turret, a rotating mounted machine gun and the sword/scabbard is the main cannon.
Here is where the olive drab comes into play as it serves as the tank mode's camoflage. Some orange can bee seen at the front of the tank under the cannon and some at thr rear of tthe treads on both sides. One slight problem with that is the fact his colors here are not jungle camo which would make sense when Bludgeon is stationed IN THE JUNGLE. Two Decepticon logos can be seen, one at the front left and one at the rear right.
Nothing much hangs from the underside, it is quite neat here.
Overall, the robot mode is excellent and well detailed. Hasbro really nailed the robot samurai angle quite well, with a sword and dagger as good weapon choices rather than a bfg that they favoured more for tank bots in the past. It does have 2 minor flaws. The grip(certainly on mine) is incredibly tight on the hands and I am afraid that the tightness will damage the weapons. Which leads me to my second gripe, the weapons are soft. Hasbro really shoot themselves in the fot with soft weapons like these. Since these are aimed at kids, they can't be having solid sword objects, and is a marketing problem they avoid by marketing it for adults and collectors. It's not much of a gripe, but it is an issue as I see it nonetheless. However, it takes very little from this nice reimagining of a G1 character. Well done Hasbro.
Score 4/5
