HUNT FOR THE DECEPTICONS SIDEARM SIDESWIPE
DELUXE CLASS
PRICE: 13.99
The Hunt for the Decepticons line has shown us a thing or two about reimagining of characters, past and closer to present. Bumblebee, Optimus Prime and Starscream have been reworked or retooled. Sideswipe, like Bumblebee, returns to the extended movie line with a brand new figure.
Sideswipe does not have the amount of new ideas that Bumblebee had but it is still a decent rework. For starters, Sideswipe is taller than his predecessor, just like Bumblebee. He also transforms differently as you'll see later with the vehicle mode. There are no tail lights on Sidearm, which bothers me, and you'll see it being a bother later. The back is different as you'll see a little later.
Joints as follows, ball joint at the shoulders and you can also push the shoulders forward. Regular elbows too.
He still has chicken legs. New ankles, which is quite good and new feet, dunno if that has been spotted so far.
Balljoint on the neck. I'll return to the head.
Hips are limited to be honest, and it is the only real similarity
Of course, now we reach the 'sidearm' retooling. Sideswipe, according to the bio, ditched the swords after Ironhide(that gun nut) persuaded Sideswipe to try blasters again.
He comes equipped with 2 hand guns which can be hand held or stowed in the back . They can also be equipped in vehicle mode, more later.
The back changes slightly. Since the swords are dropped, the doors now move to the rear. The kibble is mostly the same as before with the door change.
Vehicle mode is still based on the Chevrolet Corvette concept with a swanky additions to the colour scheme. It is remeniscent to G1 Hot Rod. The vehicle size is as good as the same as the older model.
As you can see, the lines in Sidearm's joins in the vehicle are radically different compared to the figure of old.
No tail lights, ooh, misfire.
As you can see, the weapons can be equipped in vehicle mode. This defeats the purpose of robots in disguise.
Better off without
Last little footnote, the head. I had planned to headswap with Swerve to make a red Sideswipe. The balljoint in Sidearm's head is slightly too small for Swerve's head and the chin wont go down properly in the old Sideswipe body. Shame.
ROBOT : 7/10 Nice reworking of Sideswipe and the retooling works for the robot. Hips are still a tad limited.
VEHICLE : 7/10 Nice to be the same, shape is still pleasing but the new join lines are far more obvious than before
OVERALL : 7/10
