Recently picked this guy up and I'm impressed enough.
Alt mode: mini looking laptop with toshiba written on the cover, when you open the cover it reveals a glorious Autobot symbol to a red back drop on the screen. Four usb ports are easily accessible in this mode. I'd like to think of this mode, seein as how it's an oversized computer(in deluxe figure and voyager figure standards) that Blaster himself is Teletran 1, just a fan thought lol.
Robot mode: If you wanted an updated G1 Blaster who was seen in the 86 movie asking perceptor, "what's shakin' Perceptor?Other than this fortress" , then you've got him, he's a perfect representation of the G1 animation model with of course a newer look such as his back pack which blends in nicely enough I must say. His articulation is pretty good, although the only downer for me personally is that he doesn't have a ball jointed head. His G1 cassettes fit in his chest for those of you that have Steeljaw, eject and rewind(unfortunately I've no Autobot cassettes so I don't know how they look. Blaster stands taller than a deluxe and is roughly the height of a voyager.
Real world use: This is regarding what he actually does other than being a Transformer, Blaster is a usb hub, when I first heard of this I didn't know what it was so for those of you who may not know, if you have 2 usb ports in your computer(as I do) Blaster plugs into one which gives you four, so five in total. A neat little use. I tested it out today and my multimedia has no problem interacting with Blaster, my 80gig classic ipod is a different story, it doesn't seem to like to plug into certain ports on Blaster and therefore will not sync with my computer but will charge strangely enough. I messed around with different ports and flicked my ipod on and off and currently the i pod is synced up to my computer now so hopefully that's all it takes. If anyone else has this problem let me know as I don't know if it's just my one.
Is Blaster worth getting? In short, yes, he's an update to a G1 character that I liked due to his loud personality and funny nature, I love things that function such as Ravage device label(have that too) that can work and be put to use, if you're happy enough with two usb ports and don't like Blaster then you may want to think twice but I'd really recommend him to G1 fans and those who wanna complete the 86 cast and his functionality is decent enough. He can be used in robot mode too in transferring data but as my tower is low down he's better off in alt mode. This is as close to classics Blaster as we'll get folks as he's an obscure enough character, but who knows. One thing is for certain, it's a pity that there wasn't a steeljaw, eject or rewind usb made to go along with Blaster as Soundwave had rumble and frenzy as ear phones, anyway that's my two cents folks, enjoy.
