Space Case has been showing up in Tesco these past few weeks, sadly he’s packed 1 per case of 8 with the remaining figures being repaints of Bumblebee (again?!) & Arcee with Cybertronian writing on them.
Space Case comes with the comic written by John Barber and drawn by someone who doesn’t understand basic perspective. It’s of a similar quality as the armada pack-in comics (remember those?) and in certain panels Bumblebee looks like a yellow cardboard box with a face or, alternatively, a bunch of rectangles joined together by empty space. In short, don’t buy this for the comic.
Luckily Space Case is a great figure. He’s a repaint and remold of Terradive who recently appeared in the yellow box packaging in your local Smyths.
He’s mostly built of transparent blue plastic with some red, white (mostly on his legs and arms) and black.
The mold is kibble free in either mode and has an interesting transformation scheme.
If you already have Terradive then you know how good this toy is so I’m not going to keep on about it. Space Case is worth buying if you can find him, even if you have Terradive already. I usually don’t buy repaints (the generations line notwithstanding) but I’m glad I did this time.
Another note. Space Case has the Target logo, which is a red and white bullseye hidden on his wrists. The translucent plastic shows the logo when you flip out his hands from the jet engine and close the cover over. I assume it’s intentional and it’s a great nod as he was a Target exclusive in the U.S.
The remainder of this case are bound to shelfwarm for a while (the only one in the case my local Tesco sold was this figure to me) but I’d say he’s going to be hard to get because of the limited numbers and pretty high interest in him. Another note. Tesco charged me full price for him, even before they jacked up the prices a week or so back. I wonder why?
Pictures ain't mine by the way, my camera's not that good so i figured i'd google nicer ones
